Can you really learn by yourself?

Seriously, can you really learn animating (both 2D,3D and other complex) softwares even if you didn't go to any college or any programs? Let's be real though, considering the fundamental parts you get from college and other programs. I mean even if I say that I am 100% "a dedicated, passionate and will work on this project 24/7 365" guy? Like don't you think about the things that you don't know but you really can't tell if there's any cause you can't know what you don't know? And all this time you've been doing it all wrong or at least somewhat wrong? Hit me up with your opinions.
