Question about selling and copyright.

I've never sold any artwork before,but I have been thinking about it a lot and I don't know much about it. My question is can I sell fanart I've made of a character from a TV show? I have copied from a photograph and used watercolour paint. If I can't do that, is there any way around it? Thanks for any answers. :)
