[No Spoilers][OC] Can this sellsword be a SPELLsword?

So I drew a kinda generic fantasy character (originally as a new character class in, of all things, For Honor), but he also fits into Dragon Age pretty well -- I looked at Sebastian for reference, after all.

Maybe he's a Nevarran-born nomadic mercenary, spent a lot of time in Orlais (helmet looks pretty Orlesian). But I also thought, I really love magic and mages, so what if he was a runaway apostate? And he tries to hide his magic by pretending to be a normal sellsword.

THEN I wondered, and here's what I'm asking -- can he use magic without a staff? What if he spent some time dreaming in the fade and befriended a spirit that lives in his sword? Could he then use the sword to channel magic?

Anyway, tl;dr: I drew a vaguely DA-esque character, enjoy.
