Propaganda and changing stories (North Korea)
Edit 17 minutes in: Doh! My bad, I found a 2016 article that also includes the church member story here
Original post: The propaganda is strong and collective memory extremely weak.
Who remembers that jackass finance student Otto Warmbier, the rich kid from a snooty Cincinnati suburb who was arrested in North Korea after stealing a political poster to impress a secret fraternity he was trying to join at the University of Virginia? I just noticed that this week the story seems to have changed - now it was a parishioner of his parent's church that had offered him a used car in exchange for the political trophy?? Oh please.
And now his equally gross parents have suddenly come forward for the first time to complain about how John Kerry didn't do anything try to bring their son home, but Rex Tillerson is on the case now so maybe their poor innocent helpless baby will be brought home.
I get it, even if your kid does shitty things you still love them, and 15 years of hard labor is outrageous for a little vandalism, but the "facts" of the case being changed like this and the loaded words all media outlets are using to describe this poor child's unfair predicament in the "orwellian hellhole known as North Korea" is so blatant it's like they aren't trying anymore.
This might not be worthy of this sub, sorry, but it's the only place I can come to bitch about this stuff anymore
