[Help?] Is it possible to force middle click to always open in the tab right next to the current one?

I use my middle mouse/scrollwheel all the time to open links/bookmarks in a new tab.

But it's always so random. Sometimes it opens directly to the right of my current tab. Sometimes to the most right, at the end of all my tabs.

I want the middle click to open the new tab directly to the right of the current tab every single time for consistency. The main problems is with youtube. I often 'open' multiple videos and want to watch them in the order I 'open' them. Once I'm done with one video, I close the tab and the next tab opens, starting to play the video.

I've looked through chrome://flags but haven't found anything. So if there is some way to accomplish this, help would be appreciated. But I'm guessing this is some stupid algorithm at work, deciding where the tab should open and it's not configurable.
