WANTED: Your opinion on fastest path to getting off the ground with Linux development.

I'm a developer (CS degree, but more practical experience with IT/Web Dev/Networking) whose strengths lie in C++ and Java, mainly. I'm currently setting up a Raspberry Pi B+ running the latest Raspbian distro to automate some data aggregation, parsing and computation procedures. My only experience with Linux development (and Linux at all, really) was the few command line gcc compiled programs they assigned to us in college (years and years, ago).

What I need is an executable that reads data from CSV files and populates a MySQL database. My question to you is do you think it would be faster to figure out how to produce Linux executables using the VisualGDB plug-in for Visual Studio (the IDE I'm most comfortable using), or should I suck it up and teach myself Python (a language I've never coded in) or similar to accomplish this goal?
