I'm returning my Chromebook Plus

Today I decided to return my Chromebook Plus. I've had it for about three weeks, and while I generally enjoyed the device, I can't make sense of keeping it. Here are my thoughts:

It's very light, very small, and very convenient. Also, the screen is outrageously good. I enjoyed the Android apps and the boot time was astonishing.

The trackpad is horrendous. I can't quite place my finger on it, but using it in real life was nothing short of awful. For full context, I'm coming from a MBP which has a fantastic trackpad so I'd need a more refined experience to be happy.

The stylus was nice. I didn't use it that much, but Squid was very responsive and easy to write on. The palm rejection was flawless and there was no noticeable lag. I'm aware this is all very app-specific (Google Keep was a nightmare).

The keyboard was ok. I didn't mind the smaller keys. The typing is not as satisfying as my MBP but I didn't have any major complaints with the layout or the feeling. I do miss the backlit keys, but I could have lived with that.

Battery life was just ordinary. It's much better than my MBP, but that device is also almost 7 years old so the battery is understandably shit. Perhaps now that I'm going back to it, I'll get it replaced.

The processor was just not fast enough. Perhaps my computing style needs adjustment, but then I think to myself: this is 2017 and I shouldn't have to close every app I have open when I'm moving between them. It tried its best to keep up, but with ~10 tabs open and a few apps (honestly, nothing extreme. I wasn't trying to be a jerk to this thing) it shouldn't lag like that.

The Wifi was awful. It constantly lost connection and had to reconnect, and frequently it would just shit the bed and show no networks available (despite the fact that I live in Manhattan so there are always 100s of networks) until I did a power cycle. For a device in 2017 that relies on internet connectivity, this is unforgivable.

Perhaps the Pro will be better? I've read somewhere that the wifi firmware (or something) will be updated and then it will be fine again. The long and short - as I creep closer to my return deadline and I can't justify waiting and hoping that these things will be fixed.

Finale note: these are my opinions. This is likely to hurt a lot of feelings in this sub, but perhaps other buyers will benefit from this information. Perhaps there are other chromebooks that would have been better for me, too, but I bought this one based on a lot of research because it seemed closest to what I wanted. Sadly, it missed the mark.

I'm holding out for Chromebooks. I'll continue to lurk in this subreddit and keep an eye on things.
