Meet Dingleberry
My ex is an abusive shit head. He learnt it at his mother's feet and I'm working my way up to more posts about her (Snake) over at JNMIL as she's even worse than he is. When we were together I called him Huckleberry as a reference to one of our favorite movies. After we split, a friend suggested I change it to Dingleberry to fit his personality better. Eventually I'll get around to posting about all the hell he put me through, but for now I just wanted to make a brief introduction and share how I knew I needed to leave.
Among other BS he pulled, DB was borderline reproductively abusive. He wanted to be a dad so bad that he would encourage me to stop taking my BC, refused to use any protection himself, and thought I was an idiot for wanting both of us to be employed and able to pay our rent (we nearly got evicted twice and were only saved my monetary gifts from my parents) before having kids. Being married might be nice too. He never actually sabotaged my BC, but I feel certain he would have eventually.
I grew up in a very conservative household, so for most of my of my life and under my parents' influence I described myself as pro-life. While a pregnancy might not be convenient, I would carry to term because that was the right and moral thing to do. At one point near the middle of our relationshit, I was about 2 weeks late. I immediately sat my ass down and looked up the cost of an abortion. When I sat and thought about why I would do that when I'd always believed it to be wrong before, I realized it's because if we had a child together then I would be tied to him forever. Even if we broke up, I knew he'd fight for access to his kid and best case scenario I'd have to spend years fighting him in court to get sole custody. Which forced me to realize that subconsciously, I knew the relationship had an expiration date, even though I stuck around another year and change. Turns out I wasn't pregnant, just super stressed, but I kept a stash of tests in the house from that point forward so I would know as early as possible if I needed to terminate.
I'm now pro-choice.
