Why is SKT/Faker so good?

I just watched this discussion between Thorin and LS. Towards the middle of the Video LS told that faker has stepped up his game again, but for me as a casual Platin player I don't see the difference between now and half a year.

So can anyone tell me why he was ''bad'' for awhile?
