6 Month Progress, 125lbs-147lbs

TL;DR: Front Flex Back Legs

Hey guys, I've been dying this whole week to finally be able to post my progress so far! I just wanna start and say thank you to everyone on this subreddit. Everyone's just trying to help each other, and I love seeing familiar accounts make posts keeping us updated on their progress.

Background: Honestly not much too it; I'm M/18/5"11, I played hockey growing up, but became sedentary in high school playing League any chance I got. Started college this last fall, and realized just how underweight I was. I ran into a high school friend that worked out, and mustered up all my confidence to ask him if he can help me out. The rest just goes from there.

Training: First day walking into the gym I had the mindset of just getting a feel for weightlifting. I even recorded what I did everyday. Here is my first couple of days, and I honestly don't know how I ended up with the exercises I chose. Over the entire 6 months I've been going to the gym 4 days a week. For the first 2 months had major fuckarounditis, but I really was just trying to get comfortable. I made sure I was trying something new and experimenting with different exercises. 3 months in, I got a gym partner that I began running a "program" with. Of course it was self made by us (sorry!) that was an upper lower split, and was the first time I started squatting and deadlifting. Now for the last 2 months, I started n-suns 5/3/1 4 day routine, because I wanted more bench volume specifically. Currently I only run it for Bench, Squat, Deadlift, and OHP with about 5 accessory lifts afterwards. Over the summer, I plan to adopt the full routine. Overall, I'm satisfied with how I approached the gym. I take every lift day very serious, making sure I push myself. Yet the biggest contributor I think has been consistency. I've missed probably about 5 workout days in the last 6 months, and I don't think I've ever gone under 3 days a week. Leading up to today, I tested my 1RM so without further ado:

Bench: 65lbs ---> 135lbs (curse you bench!)

Squat: 65lbs ---> 225lbs

Deadlift: 135lb ---> 275lbs

While I'm here I'll drop everyone's favorite part, progress pics!

Diet: Eating is hard yo. Before I made the change, my diet consisted of an omelet for breakfast, chips from the vending machine, and snacking at home tell I go to sleep. First day of college I weight in at 117lbs, and eating just wasn't a priority. I then began to slowly work my way up to 3 meals a day. About 2 months in I started counting calories with MFP at a caloric surplus at 2,800 calories. At the time was about 300 calories above my maintenance. Now for the last 3 months I've upped it to 3,180 calories. Living on campus, my diet has been about exactly the same for the full 6 months. I eat at the cafeteria 3 times a day everyday. Typical breakfast meal would be 3 scrambled eggs, hash browns, two sausage patties, and a bowl of yogurt. Lunch and dinner would both be: 1 grilled chicken breast, a fuck ton of pasta, and a hamburger patty. My biggest revelation I came to was I have a bigger weight problem, than a "lack of muscle problem." I came to the conclusion that diet has to be my biggest priority even over weightlifting. I've been taking a mass gainer supplementary to my diet to fill in a leftover 300 calories. I hit most of my macros within +-5%, and recently put greater focus on weekly caloric intake to avoid having weeks like this where I think I hit every day well, yet I'm still under. To end, here is my weight graph.

Thanks again to everyone on this sub! Weightlifting has been the best decision I've ever made, and you all will see me again when I make it a year!
