Why such the trending criticism on 2017 special?

I skimmed through a lot of weeks old posts about the 2017 special and 75% of the comments are negative with the rest being people with my exact opinion. Don't go in expecting anything. I was foolish and gave into the early reviews and it really ruined the first half for me. Eventually halfway through and the rest, was literally having me and my friends debating whether this is his best special yet. If anything, the special before this one was the weakest. And the only reason that was weak was because I didn't care for the topics much. But it was still funny because it was him.

One opinion I did ponder on is that the whole point that he seemed kinda like he had to do this show and I have some thoughts. Maybe he realized he was gay/bi or at least thought about how much money he would make if there was some shock like that and then came up with new easy Louis CK classics. However, that combination really made for a solid special. I'll be watching this special again this weekend.
