First Timer with Questions
After forgetting to grab oranges from the grocery for the past week+, I remembered yesterday and had my first shower orange this morning. While I enjoyed it, it did not live up to the life-changing and euphoric expectations I had in my head (I blame myself for setting expectations too high). The scent/misting wasn't as good as I had hoped; however, the coldness and juiciness of the orange was extremely satisfying. I also didn't get any latent animalistic urges to tear it apart and devour the orange.
Before people get up in arms, I'd like to try this again but want to make sure I'm nailing the basics. I grabbed a naval orange that was refrigerated overnight so it was ~40 degrees Fahrenheit. After the water warmed in the shower (set to a pretty high temp), I hoped in and proceeded to warm my body while keeping the orange out of direct contact with the water. After a 30-60 second warm-up period, I began to remove the peel and allowed the peels to fall to the shower floor (per shower orange customs). After a few tears in, my olfactory senses failed to detect much orange scent (if any), so I proceeded to twist some of the peels off to tease out oils and scent-producing juices from the peel. Still nothing. After peeling the requisite amount of peel off, I began to eat the orange section by section. This part was really pleasant - juicy and cold. After finishing the orange, I tossed the peels into the trash bin by my toilet.
Apologies for the length of this post but I wanted to be exhaustive in what I did. What am I missing? Should I try it with a different orange varietal? Should I use my teeth to tear into the peel? Eat the orange like an apple (i.e., not respect the sections)? Something else? Or could it be timidness from this being my first shower orange and I just need more experience?
