How to take my design to the next level?
I have a web design company based in Finland. Our two man team basically does solo work: both of us have our own projects which we are responsible for entirely.
This was my first site:
After 4 months, with minimal styling guidance I'm currently producing work like this:
http://www.maanrakennusliikeah.fi/
I'm never cutting corners, I always want to make the best possible site I can make. And that leads me to a slight problem: I know what 10/10 design looks like, but I feel I couldnt come up with that stuff even if my life depended on it. I'm sort of stuck on a 6/10 design level regarding the "wow, this site blows my mind"-O'Meter.
Heres a company whose references I totally hope I will be able to compete with at some point:
https://forgeandsmith.com/case-studies/
Now I realise they have a talented team who are way more skilled than me in their narrower areas and that's why I'll not produce that level of websites solo in the next 10 years minimum, but one can dream!
According to people I've spoken with, they tell me to keep absorbing inspiration from great websites and one day I should realise I don't need to copy anymore.
So I was wondering, are there ways to boost my level of visual design skill without going for a "inspiration" (spying) tour of similar websites before I start my projects?
Thanks for reading all this, and especially if you took your time to reply too!
