ID expired--interview coming up

I'm a 20 year old man and I never quite got the hang of driving. I've had my permit for close to four years now and I just don't use it that often because I simply don't drive that much. I didn't notice until just recently that it's expired, because since I don't drive, I hardly touch the damn thing.

I have a couple job interviews coming up and I realized both ask for my ID. My permit is my only ID I have and I just realized, of course, it being expired could be bad news.

Do people look at that sort of thing very closely? Do I need to get it renewed before the interview? Or is this something most people wouldn't worry about?

How would I go about that? Can just ANY DMV renew me? I'm out of town for school so I won't be able to reach the city where I originally got it in time.
