Help with 1965 Kay restoration?
I recently found a 1965 Kay (body only) that I am trying to get back in playable condition. The original nut was inside the guitar, and I have ordered replacement tuners, tailpiece and bridge.
The frets need dressing badly (not sure if someone started refretting it at some point or if they were that horrible from the factory). However overall, it is in great shape - very solid, and the neck seems to be pretty straight.
I include all this because I am happy to hear advice on any of it, but my main questions are:
-
I want to clean it the best I can without taking off any more of the paint than necessary - what is the best thing to use? I used a little dish soap and water to knock the bulk of the dust off, but I need to give it a little deeper cleaning.
-
I don't want to "restore" it so much as preserve it. I assume Lacquer is my best bet for the body and back of the neck, but I don't want a high-gloss finish. I am hoping I can do just enough to protect what's left of the paint...are there other products I should be looking at, or methods you can suggest?

About half of the fretboard is in decent shape, and about half is down to bare wood...again, I'm not worried about getting it perfect - will oiling it get it back to a smooth feel? I believe it is maple.
I appreciate any help or advice...If it makes any difference, I am in Arizona and I would guess this thing has been sitting in someone's attic or garage for quite some time - super hot, and super dry. Here are some pics as well:
Edit: found the answer to my floating bridge question.
