Training Opportunities? Looking for some clarity.

Greetings Legionnaires. I am a vet in the US who is very interested in heading to France for the legion. It is extremely difficult to find anyone to get info from though, and when I do, a lot of it is contradictory, over exaggerated (“I am in the REP, and we are all badasses. You will probably never make it” or “I am in the REP and everyone here is either an eastern European sketchball or a huge wannabe fag, and this place is so gay I want to kill myself”), or just very vague. I hear about some great training and traveling opportunities, but I also often hear about how much it sucks. To some extent, a lot of the reasons I hear from serving legionnaires for why it sucks sound very consistent with the experience of junior enlisted in the US military. You rarely shoot and do cool stuff, and you clean toilets, get shit on all day and are treated like a slave by retarded NCO's and officers and "the system" at large. None of the legionnaires I have spoken to have served in other militaries, so they had no comparison. They just assumed it was only the legion that was like this. This made it easier for them to assume the legion sucked more that it really did in comparison to being a junior enlisted slave in the US armed forces. That said, I am confident that a significantly higher potential for shittiness in the legion certainly does exist, and I do not mean to belittle that. I'm just posing the thought that it still may be slightly exaggerated in comparison to other militaries bc most of the ppl bitching have nothing else to compare too. Also, we (US military) were allotted 30 days of leave per year, but could rarely take more than 7 total days the whole year (not including major holidays). It seems that in return for shittier day-to-day existence, Legionnaires seem to get significantly more vacation time. Learning French and getting to party in Paris sounds pretty cool too, and the Legion life experience is an exceptionally unique adventure in itself. If you are a legionnaire who is also an American veteran, I would very much appreciate any insight. I expect it is shittier, but I would appreciate an objective assessment of how much shittier and why.

However, shitty or not, I have cleaned toilets, and hated my superiors throughout much of my service and was able to stomach it and still gain a lot of positive from the experience. Also, as an admin clerk, I had a very unsexy specialty that I hated and never wanted to begin with. I joined to become a warrior, and being a fucking clerk was the exact sort of job I joined the military to avoid. Even so, I am very proud I have served, but I resent that I was unable to learn or do literally anything that I joined the military for.

Even though I have a high threshold for bull shit, in return for this bull shit, I am hoping the FFL surpasses the US Military in potential for great training opportunities and experiences and for a more authentic military lifestyle, but it seems like this is pretty regimental dependent. The REP was my first choice for great training given its traditional reputation, but the more intelligent ppl I have met from the REP (they have all still been very junior) say they don't train at all. They just run, jump, and get yelled at by eastern Europeans all day. Sounds pretty retarded. From what I can tell so far, it actually sounds like 1/2REG is the place to be in terms of training opportunities. Lots of skiing, ski-mountaineering, alpine climbing, EOD, combat swimming/diving, along with basic infantry instruction (even the potential for parachute training? Pls correct me if I am wrong) Additionally, I am told that depending on your specialty, it is easy for a 1/2REG legionnaire to augment with another regiment during their deployments, and thus have more deployment opportunities as well. They are also close to major cities and the Med coast, and generally have a lot more appealing off duty opportunities. I have heard more about 2REG, but I am also including 1REG as it seems they fill the same roll, and thus likely have similar experiences. Can anyone please comment on anything I have said? Trying to get info from legionnaires is like pulling teeth. Most of it sounds over exaggerated or very vague. Does the REG or any other regiment actually offer some appealing opportunities in return for the shitty lifestyle?

Sorry for ranting. Thank you very much for any insight!
