[California/Los Angeles] My dad arrested over car theft, not charged with anything yet. He's not answering police questions, what now?
First of all, should mention we're British expats in Los Angeles (well, I'm half-British, see further down the post). I'm 22/F, but was born here in California.
My dad was arrested last week in Los Angeles over car theft; they'd found him drunk and drugged in a car which wasn't his (I believe it was some Mercedes car) and he slurred his speech and showed his underwear to the officers arresting him. Dad told me he kept asking the cops about their underwear and they refused to answer him so he kept trying to touch their genitals (AFAIK one cop was a woman).
He has refused to answer the cops' questions, and said he needs an attorney, and is threatening to flee back to the UK to get away from this.
You might ask how long has he been in the US? He's been here since 1988 (well before I was born).
I feel sick and angry over this, and am worried over our future.
Could we be kicked out of the US over this (I should also add, I'm half-Indian too because of my dad's heritage... mom is American, from Noe Valley not that you need to know or care... but she's a California girl, especially if race issues are a problem, my dad's British and Indian, and the travel ban thing worried me a hell of a lot).
Could my dad be charged with car theft and any other issues?
Why he stole the car, I don't know, he owns a flash BMW car and mom has her big Jeep SUV. Dad claims "it's work stress and a boss who's abusive drove me to nick the car".
Also... would I be deported or not (even though I was born here, in Carson City) or could my dad be deported for this?
This is a lot of info. Sory for this.
