PhD Psychology: How to Fund Grad School Stipend and Fellowship
Hi so I'm graduating this semester and taking a gap year before starting the quest that is academia partly to take a mental break and to try to save up a bit for grad school time. I would like to get a fellowship if possible since I have a little research experience.
So all the schools I'm applying to stated that they give a base stipend to their PhD students ($15000-25000). I do feel like I could make that work to live off of if I seriously look at the more cheaper cost of living programs because I've been lucky if I made $12000 during undergrad. Yet, a few schools programs I love more are in areas that cost of living aren't as cheap.
I know the likelihood of winning a stipend may be bleak, but would like to attempt to obtain one. However, I want to live comfortably enough that I could try to save some of the fellowship amount for a rainy day vs the stipend without anything to save.
So my question is if I get the base stipend could I get a fellowship too? Would the base stipend and fellowship be added together for that year or would I only get the fellowship amount?
All critiques will be greatly appreciated.
