How to reduce cart abandonment?
Cart Abandonment.. It's an inevitable pain in the a**, right? However, if you don't do anything to eliminate cart abandonment, it's a lot of potential revenue lost.
So what are the most common reasons users abandon their carts? In my experience it's:
- Pricing
- High shipping costs
- Lack of time
- Complicated checkout process
- Checkout process requires too much information
- Lack of payment options
- Lack of money at time of checkout
- Internet connection was cut off
- Other technical problems on the site
- No guest checkout option
One of the best ways to reduce cart abandonment is by sending cart abandonment emails. While there might not be a perfect abandoned cart email, there are a few ways to ensure your emails are effective. In my research, I found that what most e-commerce shops do is to:
- Be specific
- Be true to your brand
- Be Personal
- Offer an Incentive
- Tempt with related items
- Include customer reviews and testimonials
I've created a complete article about this subject + Compiled a swipe file with all my favorite examples of abandoned cart emails. All examples have made use of at least two of the strategies above (which is why I love them). Send me a PM if you're interested.
