The case of the self-repairing and then vanishing record.
I collect records. I have an extensive collection of Sigur Rós vinyl. It's cataloged, in it's own separate boxes away from my other records, meticulously cared for, arranged chronologically and kept in a place where no one messes with it. I'm obsessed.
A few years ago I ordered a 7" from my local record store. The record came in a hard plastic sleeve with their logo printed on the front and sealed in plastic wrap (too loose to call it shrink wrap). When I picked it up the hard plastic sleeve was cracked through the printed logo. As I'm very particular about this collection this wasn't really good enough. I had him order another copy. I decided to keep the extra copy. The new one came and was in perfect shape.
Fast forward a few years and I'm arranging my collection and I notice that both copies of this record are in perfect shape, no crack. I inspect both and can't tell them apart. The damage to the one record would be the only reason I would even have a second copy. I noticed this years ago.
Now, I finally decided to take a picture and post to this sub and I just went to grab the records. Now there is only one copy. I dug through both boxes, looking inside all the lp jackets even though I know the two copies were stored together. It's nowhere to be found. My wife doesn't care about my collection, she never touches it and doesn't play pranks on me. I am so confused.
