Individual Contributor > Director: Salary Issue/Question?

Employment

Hey all.

I am an individual contributor in my current role, and my base pay is about $53k. I get about 7% bonus consistently per year.

I am interviewing for a director level role that would lead a team of about 10-15 of the same employee I am now. The "problem" is that according to glassdoor, the average salary for this role is $132k base. Now I understand glassdoor isn't exactly accurate etc, but I do not know what to do if I get an offer (I'd be hearing any day now so I wanted to check this out beforehand).

$53k > $132k is 150% increase, and I do not think my company would offer me that. But if they offer me $70k, I would still be forced to take it because that is still a large increase and a large promotion. However, then I would be way lower then the overall director level salary. How is this type of thing usually worked out, when the company knows your salary is way lower than the job you're applying for (because they pay it) and you don't want to get stuck paid way less than you should be?

Thanks everyone. One thing I think about is I could take the job no matter the offer and then once I have a year of experience could go to a different company to get a steep increase.
