Can anyone explain this confusing behavior to me? Has this happened to anyone else? Re: Tech Recruiters

I've had this happen to me with multiple recruiters: -They contact me out of the blue -They tell me they have so many jobs to offer -They offer me one, which I turn down for a specific reason (like it is a 2 hour one way commute). -I never hear from them again regarding any other job, and when I contact them they say they have nothing else at the moment.

Has this happened to anyone else? What is the best way to develop a relationship with a recruiter when the first job they offer you is way different from what you are looking for?
