Dealing With Tilted Teammates

Hi there.

So one of the things I've noticed, especially (or maybe I've just been unlucky) as I've been getting close to Diamond, is that there are a lot more people who tilt incredibly easily. Often huge egos with the typical "I must carry or its gg" attitude.

In just the last two days I must've seen at least 6 of these people, and, yes, we went on to win maybe half of the games they wanted to ff in their rage.

So my question is: What can you do/tell these people to help calm them down? Obviously sometimes it will be impossible, but has anything ever worked for you? I've tried telling them to relax and that we can win, but no matter how friendly I am nothing seems to work.

I'm absolutely positive I've lost multiple winnable games to this shit and I'm wondering if any of you have had any success convincing tilted teammates to keep their mind in the game.

heres my tips from experience:

  • for first, u need to accept that there will ALWAYS be people like this
  • don't let it get to u expect it to happen
  • once u are not tilting YOURSELF and affecting YOUR OWN gameplay then u can start thinking about em
  • the way i deal with this is just being extremely cocky and confident. Every time they say something i say "we win"
  • they quite down but then they die again and start talking - "stfu we win"
  • and thats basically it, i waste just like 1 second to type this to EVERYTHING they say and even tho it might seem like its not working TRUST ME IT IS

Just think of it like dealing with girls. They say "im fine" but u know they are not fine. They dont want u to say "ok ure fine bye" they want u to be a MOTHAFKIN ROCK and talk to her about some shit. Same thing here they are gonna keep bithcing but they secretly wanna suck u off because of ur manliness and confidence. Didn't u hear yet that girls like confidence, those lil fucks that complain all the time are pretty much the same thing as girls

Doing nothing works best for me.

Don't reply, don't try to calm them just do nothing.

Ppl on tilt are just waiting for a teammate to take the bait to go on full rage mode... anything will trigger it.

Once you're ingame it's to late so keep playing and keep your mouth shut, if you're still in the lobby then just dodge... that's what I do.

Yep. Mute button exists, and the best way to make someone keep tilting is to say literally anything to them. Just mute them and play your best game.

/mute all should be allowed in champ select. Then I would never have to read the little babies rage in and out of the game.

What can you do/tell these people to help calm them down?

Nothing. Nothing will calm them down. They are incapable of thinking, whether its bronze or challenger people like this will never calm down just because you told them to.

Don't be that "Please stop arguing we can still win ~( ^ _ ^ )7" guy. It only tilts people more.

Just ignore them. That's all you can do. Use them as practice bots to test your limits on how much shit you can take without getting mad. It's actually a decent practice I'd say.

A few of those people will realize they are triggered and will try to correct themselves if you try to calm them down (Maybe 20-25%).

Probably at least 25% of the time (Maybe more), if a teammate is triggered, they will actually decide that they WANT to lose the game. There are many reasons for them to do this.

Here are just a few:

  • Spite a teammate they are angry at.
  • They are upset about the pick/ban phase and want revenge on their team.
  • They may AFK (or AFK split, etc) to try to preserve their KDA.
  • They might want to lose, so they can have a higher winrate on the champs they 'tryhard' on.
  • They remember someone from a game they played previously, and they hate them, so they want to lose.
  • They might be intentionally tanking ELO so they can boost someone more easily.
  • They are trying to imitate streamers like SoloRenektonOnly and WingsOfDeath, who sometimes give up on stream, in order to look cool.

There are tons of reasons for them to want to lose, I just generally either tell my team to mute them, or more commonly I just mute all and focus on my own gameplay.

League has a LOT of toxic players and you basically just have to do your best to ignore them in my opinion. It's just too much effort to try to untilt them.

Sometimes you can calm them down but this is so rare that I usually don't bother.

I just tell them to chill out. After that I don't type anything.

You do one thing: You don't let them tilt YOU. Because you are the only carry in your soloqueue games. If you do your job and get the game going, they won't have a reason to tilt anymore.

Your job is not to provide private council to teammates. Your job is to win games.

In my experience it's best to ignore it and mute the player. Do not harass them in any form. If they ping you back, go back.

There's a Sky Williams video that was kinda funny that may help. He said just "suck their dicks," just compliment everything they do right and play down any of their mistakes. Don't try to convince them of anything, they're not thinking logically.
