Beer can / messy desk for reference. At one time there were 4 cooks living under one roof. The moving purge was bountiful. Every few weeks I bring a bundle into work and its gone by the end of the day.

And that's exactly why as a FOH worker, I always keep the exact same pen in my apron and keep it with me at all times. I've had the same pen for over a month now.
My "always on me" pen was a bright, neon yellow refillable one that was so bright that it almost hurt to look at it. If it got swiped by someone (and it often did) it never took me long to find it.
Mines a black fine tip felt one, which never fails to write perfectly on slips. I find that most ballpoint ones have difficulty writing on the bills because they are a bit waxy or something, but the felt ones are always perfect. Then I also keep a highlighter as well to draw little smiley faces on the bills that I give to tables, if they've been extra friendly.
