it seemed like the non fastness system for Matterhorn was just fine
Agreed. I dont understand their thinking on this one.
If they are gearing up to go towards a WDW style fastpass+ system they need as many rides on the FP system as possible.
I don't understand. Could you explain why the amount of rides is important for that system?
Because it allows you to 3 rides in advance of your visit you potentially need more FP total available for everyone since the more popular rides will be the first ones to be reserved.
For example. WDW lets people schedule their FP+ up to 60 days in advance for up to three rides in one park. So, since everyone in scheduling their FP in advance now you need total FP availability to fill that need. Otherwise people who are showing up at 30 days out or 10 days out or even the day off will still have access to some kind of FP even if it isn't for the high quality rides.
Stuff like Toy Story, Peter Pan, Space Mountain, Test Track, and Everest all sell out of FPs very quickly. Usually the day FP becomes available for those that can reserve 60 days in advance.
300 feet of line is 90 minutes and fastpass return is almost as long as standby.

Huh?

Single rider line peeps. You sit alone anyway
I wouldn't wait 5 minutes to break my tailbone on that ride.
I only went on it once since it opened, but it did seem to be a lot smoother. They did something to the cars. Not sure what, but they did something.
Yeah, it's been crazy, but that is almost to be expected after a long rehab and the intrigue of fastpass. They theoretically have a single rider line, but because fastpass is so long they often have to shut it down to make room for FP guests.
Have there been any noticable changes and/or improvements to the ride?
No
I thought there was. I was recently in WDW and rode on Expedition Everest. The yeti on the Matterhorn is similar to Expedition Everest, except its white. And the growling noises are much louder and a bit scarier lol. The visual aspect is better and more updated. But the ride itself is pretty much the same.
I was there this morning. There was a 2 hr wait for Matterhorn so I decided to try out the new fast pass. Those machines are awful. The guest has to get this little red light to scan their pass for the machine to dispense the ticket. It's not like the permanent fast pass machines where you insert your ticket and a fast pass dispenses. You literally have to wave your pass under a red light and hope it reads your barcode. Of the four scanners, two were constantly failing to scan and guests needed help.
I ended up giving my fast passes to some random guests later in the day because the day was hot and the line for the fast pass return was way too long.
Those machines are only temporary. They're more commonly used for shows like Fantasmic or World of Color.
That walled off area just past where the machines are setup is the permanent home of Matterhorn's FastPass machines.
My last day at the park was this past Wednesday when they opened it back up and a couple of my friends got on and got stuck for 20 to 25 mins.
It seems like Midway Mania has calmed down a little bit since it's reopened so I'm assuming the same will happen with Matterhorn. Give it like a month and I'm sure lines will even out.
Last time we rode, we got to the front after 90 minutes just to close the ride for technical repair. No way. Never again.
I know they are temp. They are just awful. Why couldnt Disney have waited for the permanent fast pass machines to be ready? That would have made more sense.
It's also like INSANELY busy at the parks today. Let's give it more than a couple days before we freak out. All the lines are crazy long.
