I Can't Stop worrying
Hi, so this is the first time I've ever posted here. It's strange because I'm normally a really, really confident person. I'm a university lecturer, and I have no social anxiety, though I have experienced performance anxiety. People would usually say that I'm annoyingly self confident, so I never thought that I might have anxiety. I guess I just want to reach out to people and talk. Sorry that this got long.
I wrote a novel, and it's due to be published in July. In all honesty it's a pretty big release, with a lot of money behind it, and I don't know, but maybe that's been weighing on me without me realising it. My wife has been suffering from anxiety and depression for a year now, since her father died. I've been worried a lot about the future of our relationship. It has been a hard year.
Nearly 4 weeks ago, I developed a bad taste in my mouth. The taste won't go away. Sometimes it's sickly, sometimes salty, sometimes fiercely sour and tangy. It doesn't matter what I do, I've tried everything. I've been to a dentist, twice, who has given my teeth a full clean and done some work on some old fillings. I've been to a doctor, who has given me antibiotics (which I'm halfway through taking) in case of infection, but haven't seen any change. Within a few minutes of using mouthwash, it comes back. I've also been feeling nauseous and had diaoreha. Then, whilst I was researching it online (because even having been to a doctor and dentist, it's all that I think about), I found that my symptoms can all be caused by anxiety, and that's when I realised.
I can't stop worrying. I'm always worried, obsessively, about something or other. I'm nervous if the doorbell rings. I'm nervous about checking the post in case something bad has come. I'm nervous about checking emails. I'm always scared that I'm dying of something, any little tweak or ping in my body makes me think that I've got a terminal illness. I have this ritual of needing to touch something made of wood to avert badness any time I think of bad things. I carry a piece of paper at all times (technically wood), I get out of the shower to touch the door, then get back into the shower, and I sleep with a hand against the headboard in case I think bad things in the night (I know, wtf right?). I'd previously participated in two martial arts competitions and won them both, but when a third one came up, I attended but didn't compete because I didn't want to have to worry about how well I would do. That's really strange for me.
I've been obsessively worrying about this mouth taste for days now. Yesterday I spent an hour worrying about whether I really have anxiety. It has become a real burden because it's so difficult to concentrate on anything else. I find I'm unable to concentrate on work, or anything that involves sitting being alone. Only being distracted by other people seems to help. The fact that I've been to a doctor and a dentist and neither of them seemed too concerned by it didn't help, although the doctor had asked if I was stressed, and I laughed it off. It had never occurred to me that I might be under pressure, anxious or stressed. The relentless worrying about things just seems to be part of life.
I just wanted to reach out and see if anyone else has experienced anything like this themselves.
Hope you're all having a good day.
TLDR: I have a bad taste in my mouth that will never go away. Doctor and dentist have both checked me out, don't seem to worry, but I can't stop thinking and worrying about it.

Props to you for having the courage to write a novel. That's good.
I can really relate to what you are saying. Not too long ago I had to tape together my life with duct tape all the time, because it was all falling apart and I was afraid, like you are now. It is not a nice feeling. Just too much to juggle at one time. I needed A's in my courses, I needed to be a smart person, I needed my relationship to work with my girlfriend, I needed to not die in a terrorist attack (there were many warnings at the time), I needed to not become sick. Yeah you know. Yadayada.
Truth is life isn't terribly important so there is no need to be worrying so much. That is quite hard for you to see now I suppose. But you'll get it eventually.
What turned it around for me was hanging out with a new crowd, breaking up with my girlfriend, shrooms (yeah actually really helpful), just lowering the expectations of what I am suppose to do here on earth. I am not a very important person so, who cares what I perform? I just do things I like to do :)
Your worries about the bad taste will subside once you get more relaxed about several aspects of life. It is all connected.
Thank you. Just hearing from someone else is really helpful.
It is pretty great to share stuff like this with a complete stranger. Wish you the best :)
