Less than one month till Global Reddit Meetup Day at Alki on June 17, 3-10pm

Pinned

Welcome to the new and improved planning thread!

Global Reddit Meetup Day is just under one month away. We’re making one final push to make this the best meetup yet. (The old thread can still be found here).

What is GRMD?

Global Reddit Meetup Day (GRMD) is an annual Reddit tradition created by the Reddit admins for all location-based subreddits to have a meetup. Reddit specifies the date, the community plans all the details and everyone has a great time.

#This year we’re holding the event at Alki Beach.
We have shelter #1 reserved between 3pm and 10pm on Saturday June 17th. We’re asking for help with food, drinks, games, etc for everyone. At some point we’ll pause the festivities to pose for a large group photo, then we’ll keep the party going into the night!

Who can come? Kids? Non-reddit people?

Everyone is welcome. We’re not planning the event as a family affair, but that doesn’t mean that you need to leave the kids at home. No one is going to be turned away.

Can I drink / smoke?

It’s a public park so drinking and marijuana are still illegal. That being said, the police are known to not interfere as long as there’s no safety or noise concerns. If previous years are any indication, there will be coolers with beer and a large number of ubiquitous red cups (feel free to sign up to bring said ubiquitous red cups as well). Just remember, you are ultimately responsible for yourself, we only ask that you make good decisions.

How can I help?

#There is a planning spreadsheet (located here). <------

Add your name or username and what you plan to bring. In order to avoid accidental modifications to your entry by others, please lock your row so only you and the sheet owner can edit it. If you are unable to use the spreadsheet for whatever reason, post a comment below and one of the mods will add it for you.

There is also a ride sharing tab on the sheet for people who need help or can give help with rides to and from the event. As noted in the ride-sharing sheet, please keep in mind:

You are asking for a ride from, or offering a ride to, someone from the internet. If this doesn't scare you a little, it should. Be careful, be safe and be excellent to each other.

What should I do now?

Post in the comments below letting everyone know you are planning to attend the event. Put your info on the spreadsheet if you plan to bring something.

Hope to see you all there!
