Penny Jenkins / Pyrite
Name/Alias: Penny Jenkins / Pyrite
Age: 23
Physical appearance: Regularly, Penny is 5’6ft tall and is a pretty chubby girl. She has long wavy red hair, which she usually keeps up in a bun. She usually dresses like a school teacher, and can always be found with a pencil behind her ear. In her regular form she also has her wings (see changer form in next paragraph) she simply keeps them hidden under her clothes.
In her changer form she is about 5.5in tall and her figure is a lot more defined. Her hands and feet seem to shimmer a gold light, which is a dust she creates, and she slathers a bit of that over her eyes to create a makeshift paint/dust mask. She also has gold, translucent fairy wings. (Her identity is not public)
Mentality: Penny is a fairly cheerful and extroverted person, but she tends to apologize and worry over whatever she says or does due to her social anxiety. She has a lot of self esteem issues and tends to be a goody two shoes.
As Pyrite, however, she’s extremely confident and a bit mischievous. She won’t hesitate to walk (fly) up and introduce herself, bend the rules a bit, or tell someone if they need an outfit change.
Backstory: Penny Jenkins grew up as the weird kid. She had to change schools in elementary because of bullying, and again in middle school for the same reason. Her and her mother never stayed in one place for too long, often staying with whichever woman her mother was dating at the time. At one point she lived on a couch for a year, and many times she had to live with her grandmother until her mother “figured things out.”
The second time she had to change schools, Penny decided to stop moving around and simply live with her grandmother. Before that, her grades had been terrible, and she didn’t really care about school or have any friends. With stability came a time of peace and growth. Her grades improved, she made friends, she even started dating, and life was generally a lot better. The only thing that seemed to get worse was her self esteem. Due to years of being picked on for her weight, being weird and annoying, or simply for being the new kid, she began to hate herself for those, and many more reasons. She began thinking that she was always on everyone’s nerves; that she was being too annoying or loud. She couldn’t look in the mirror without having a rude comment pop into her mind.
When she turned 19, things got a lot worse. Day after day she would tear herself down with rude and mean comments. A few times she contemplated suicide, figuring the world would be better off without her in it, but ultimately she was too afraid of pain, and squeamish at the sight of blood, so she never did anything drastic. One day, however, her boyfriend of two years, her rock, sends her a text. He broke up with her because he “can’t take your constant apologizing”, and that “I’ve found someone new”, among other things that she never hoped to hear. “I hope you understand” was the last thing she read before she threw her phone down onto her bed. She began to have a breakdown, locked herself in the bathroom and sobbed in the shower for what seemed like hours. Thoughts of self hatred flooded her mind, and she slapped herself until the outlines of her fingers were left on her cheeks. At one point she reached for her razor and put it to her wrist, an action she had attempted many times, once even pulling the blade across, but never with enough pressure to break the skin. Her hands shook with hesitation before she threw it out of the tub in anger.
“Why are you such a fucking weakling!” She screamed to the empty room.
It’s there, in a curled up ball in the tub, that she triggered. She became smaller and smaller, growing wings and becoming much more sparkly than she had been before in the process. The tub was too big for her to step out of anymore, which was exactly how she felt.
She never told anyone about what happened, choosing to keep herself hidden. She continued living a normal life, attending college to follow her dream of being a designer for plus size women. Recently, however, she’s been playing with the idea of joining the PRT and promoting her newly established boutique... (Cue Present)
Resources: Penny runs a small boutique downtown and earns enough money to pay for her apartment and to live comfortably.
Alignment: Unaligned
Equipment/Weaponry: Since her costume is so small, Penny carries it and a sewing pin in her purse for when she transforms. As Pyrite, she keeps the pin on her hip like a sword.
Specializations: Penny is extremely good at sewing. She can also play the ukulele a bit.
Power: In her changer form she's able to do a few things:
Flight: Pyrite’s fairy wings allow her to fly at a speed of 30mph in both her changer form and her normal form, and has flight patterns similar to that of a horsefly. She has excellent maneuverability, and can turn on a dime. If her wings get wet, however, her speed and maneuverability is severely diminished and she would have to dry them before trying anything excessive.
Dust: Pyrite can either rub a gold dust she creates onto an object with her hands and feet or shoot an object with a stream of it from a few feet away (any farther than that is likely to miss because of her small size, though within a few feet many objects are larger than her so they are easy targets). When it hits an object, it begins to slowly spread across it, helping to cover it in a short amount of time. Only a thin coating is needed, though the thicker it gets the longer the effects. This dust allows for the object, or person, hit to fly and/or float for about an hour. Because she's so small, this allows her to move objects around. Once lifted, the dust covered objects can be easily pushed, pulled, etc. The bigger the object, the more dust it takes to make it lift off.
DUST COVERAGE REFERENCE TIMES:
-
Any small object (jacket, box, jar, etc.): A few seconds
-
Human: 2 minutes
-
Car: 10 minutes
Ex: So say she wants to lift a jacket or a box compared to a car (The biggest object she can cover is a large car). It would take a few seconds to cover the jacket and box in dust, while it would take her a great many minutes to cover a car.
Stunning Screech: As a defense mechanism, Pyrite can let loose a screech so loud and high pitched that it can stun those who hear it for a few seconds. She can use this once every minute or two.
If someone happens to be wearing headphones or something that can block a percentage of sound, it will still be an annoying, headache inducing sound, but it's much less likely to stun.
Pyrite is able to stay in her changer state as long as she wishes. Any injuries sustained will transfer over to her regular form as well. This being said, being so small a lot of things will easily be able to harm her (but they have to catch her first ;D).
REGULAR FORM: In her unchanged state Penny is able to use her dust, but in a less concentrated way. She can't cover people and grant them her abilities, but she can cover small things (no larger than a cookie jar).
She also retains her gold, translucent wings, which she keeps hidden under her clothes. Again, she can only go 30mph in both forms.
Versatility: Being small and fast, she's able to wiggle her way out of tight spaces, and do a lot of recon work. She's very good at being stealthy.
Example:
Penny paces the floor of her shop, chewing on the end of a pencil.
“What to do- what to do…” She says as she looks down at the watch on her wrist.
’Half past..I’m late…’ She thinks as she peers over the banister of the loft space into the front area where her cashier is dealing with a more than unhappy customer. Penny had dealt with her before. She’s the woman that buys clothes and goes home to cut them, bringing them back the next day and demanding refunds for her “damaged products.” Penny sighs and goes to her desk, writing a note to her cashier: ‘Under NO circumstance are you to let that woman have a refund. I have checked and double checked those products before we sold them to her after the second time she came to return them. I have gone to pick up our fabric order. Be back soon~ Love, P.’
Due to the store’s bad design, the back door wasn’t in her office/workshop loft space. It was down the stairs, past the screaming customer, and towards the back of the main storefront. Penny goes to open her office window, two stories up, quickly transforming into her smaller self. She then crawls out of her pile of clothes before flying over them and her purse, delivering a few blasts of golden dust and soon they’re hovering for her to push right out the window and down into the alleyway. Once outside with her belongings, which takes a few, frustrating minutes because they’re all individual items, she changes back and dresses herself before anyone manages to see her naked. She then rushes to her car and drives off to pick up her shipment of fabrics from another store down the road.
