Gen Conf, Oct 1960, Marion G. Romney: "The Lord will never let his mouthpiece lead the people astray." Laugh out loud. It's not if the prophet has been wrong—it's a matter of counting them up.
How has the prophet fucked up—how does the prophet continue to fuck up—let me count the ways.
- Kirtland Safety Society caused warrants for Smith/Rigdon's arrest. The leadership absconded instead of facing the charges. The faithful lost savings and those holding mortgages for the Kirtland Temple went unpaid.
- Smith/Rigdon's Danite bands flared into a holy war in Missouri. The saints were lucky to escape with their lives, with the leadership imprisoned.
- Polygyny/polyandry/lechery were encoded into scripture in the Nauvoo era.
- Young and other leaders were overtly racist. Utah/Deseret would have entered as a slave state if their first petition would have been accepted. The church accepted a slave being paid as tithing.
- Young attempted to create a theocracy in the isolated wilderness. The fiery speeches of the mormon reformation, including from Young, Grant, and Kimball pushed his followers to murder innocent men, women, and children at Mountain Meadows.
- The temple oath of vengeance was duplicitous. Calling for the wholesale downfall of the government is treason.
- They excommunicated the most vocal advocates for racial equality right up until 1978.
- They have excommunicated the most vocal advocates for gender equality including Sonia Johnson and Kate Kelley.
- They have excommunicated the most vocal advocates for LGBT equality including John Dehlin and the Maloufs.
- They own a fucking mall. Their leadership have found a way to money launder the faithful's tithing into high end retail, condos, and office space for the rich at the expense of doing anything to ease suffering in the world.
They claim to have a conduit to deity. Only Smith was bold enough to own that. The rest from Young on down have been silent. Their priesthood/temple race ban was reversed by "burning in the bosom;" a negative confirmation by the standards Smith/Cowdery set in motion in New York/Pennsylvania. If their prophet is truly infallible, then shouldn't there be something to show for it. There is zero evidence for any of it. There are mountains of evidence that show the church is not a force for good in the world.
