The Indieheads 1990's Essential Ballot - 80 albums that we will vote on to make our essential chart

Here is the Ballot

Thanks to everyone not already sick of the essentials process, especially after the tough runoff vote. The fact that Slanted & Enchanted and Pinkerton are not on the ballot will anger some of you, but remember we plan to come back around and vote for 10 more albums from the 90s later, where multiple albums for some artists will be allowed (details tbd).

Anyway, the essentials committee has narrowed down the thousands of suggestions into 80 albums that fit our criteria to be on our essential chart. Some of our decisions will not be be popular with everyone, it was a lot harder to cut albums from this list, if only because we are more familiar with this decade then the 80s, but man is it tough to cut recognizable albums just to reach our arbitrary number of 80 that we thought would be more then enough . I will go through some of the albums we cut from the top 125 and the reasons why in the comments for transparency's sake.

#Voting Info

We wish we could give everyone a month or two to listen to every album on the ballot before voting, but the truth is most of you won't do it and we don't want to sit idle for too long before moving onto the 2000s. Instead, we will be holding 10 days of discussion, running from this Friday the 26th to Sunday June 4th, where each day we examine 8 Albums and discuss whether or not they belong on the chart. We balanced the schedule so that each day has some consensus classics and lesser known albums mixed together, so we hope you use the 10 day time period to brush up on albums you know and take a chance on a few new ones that pique your interest.

After the 10 days are done, voting will be open for a week, so again please use all the time you have to familiarize yourself with the decade. We are expecting nobody will have heard every album on this list before, and the vote will give you an option to leave a no opinion for each album, but we do ask voters to aim for listening to 30-40 of these albums before voting. Keep in mind that we expect you to keep a roughly 50:50 vote split between your yes and no votes, so if you have heard 40 of these albums, you need to use ~20 yes and ~20 votes.

30 of the top vote percentage albums will get onto the chart this time around, and in a later second round we will fill in the final 10 albums. If an Artist got onto the 80s chart (Applies to Cocteau Twins, Talk Talk, and Danial Johnston), they will have to exceed the vote percentage of their 80s album to get onto the 90s chart, which would then also remove the old album from the 80s chart.
