Americans of reddit, if you aren't a Costco member, why aren't you?

I'm thinking the only reasonable answer is geographical remoteness.
I've never even seen a Costco.
Who cares about money?
People that don't have much of it.
Oh
i dont think i can afford it also, my car overheats and wont make the trip.
There is not a Costco within a reasonable distance. There's like 3 HEBs within a few miles of where i live
Closest Costco is an hour away.
There's only the two of us. We don't need giant economy packs of food, and I can get paper goods at a good price if I just wait for the sales at my local grocery stores.
I live alone so buying (perishable) food in bulk quantities means I would never eat it all before it spoiled. I don't usually buy much non perishable foods or frozen foods. They only thing I could see it being beneficial to me is for paper towels toilet paper and cleaning supplies and there I don't see the savings outweighing the cost of the membership. On the rare occasion I need to buy something in bulk, we have a chain of stores here called Smart & Final, they are based a low rent version of Costco, sell items in bulk quantities but don't have any memberships.
What about gas? If the Costco membership was used solely for gas you could still end up saving money, depending on the prices, but it is sometimes 15-20 cents cheaper per gallon. Also depends on how close you live to it of course.
Well my daily driver is an electric car, my other cars aren't driven frequently enough for me to save much there either. My most frequently driven car gets filled up every two months or so. The other three, well let's just say I put sta-bil in the gas tanks.
It is too overwhelming. I'm a mom to two teens and it would totally pay, but just walking in makes me anxious. I hate shopping and that place is my worst nightmare.
Don't even know where the closest Costco is. My guess is at best an hour's drive if not two hours. That just the two largest cities around where I live. I don't even know if they have Costco.
Edit: just looked it up. At least 3 hour drive if not longer.
Costco isn't that cheap.
Well, you're buying in bulk for a cheaper per item cost, but if you don't need bulk then you might end up spending more than what you should. The biggest thing for me is gas. If the Costco is reasonably close to you, then the 20cents per gallon saving on gas could add up to outweighing the membership cost. The membership is $50/year, filling 10 gallons a week could save $2 a week and therefore pay for the membership, easily (even at 5 gallons you're ahead)
Costco is good for people with a little extra money and you have storage space. They sell High End products in bulk, not cheap ! I don't have room for that 3 month supply of toilet paper or 20 lbs of ground beef.
Because I go to BJ's instead.
I don't buy in bulk
