The Jinn
When re-watchinng scenes from season 1, I discovered this -- alternate Jones in episode 6 mentioned the "Jinn, a causality loop". I looked up Jinn on wiki, and found this
"Sleep paralysis is conceptualized as a "Jinn attack" by many sleep paralysis sufferers in Egypt as discovered by Cambridge neuroscientist Baland Jalal.[56] A scientific study found that as many as 48 percent of those who experience sleep paralysis in Egypt believe it to be an assault by the Jinn.[56] Almost all of these sleep paralysis sufferers (95%) would recite verses from the Quran during sleep paralysis to prevent future "Jinn attacks". In addition, some (9%) would increase their daily Islamic prayer (salah) to get rid of these attacks by Jinn.[56] Sleep paralysis is generally associated with great fear in Egypt, especially if believed to be supernatural in origin.[57]"
I have had a long standing theory that Cassie doesn't actually die in the CDC -- she just faked her death for Coles sake. We also see old Cassie in season 3 and the moment were she dies in the season 4 trailer. Maybe this sleep paralysis could be interpreted as faking death...
