Racist, bigoted, immature brother

It's my younger brother's 21st birthday today.

We've always been at odds, but it's to the point that I am ready to cut himself out of my life completely.

For some reference, I am a Canadian bi 25 year old female who is married, owns a house, has a university degree and a fairly successful career.

My brother has always been on the immature side, even among his peers. My parents & I thought he would grow out of it, but it seems that he's stuck at 13 years old.

  • He can't move out of my parent's house. He has moved out temporarily but is either kicked out or his roommates relocate. (okay, hard in this economy so I let that one slide.)

  • A consistent job seems to be too hard for him. He stayed in retail until he decided to try the oilfield. He lasted 2 weeks before he was fired/he quit. Then he was unemployed for at least 6 months. He recently finally got a job as a carpenter's helper due to connections a month ago.

  • He seems to have no ambitions for the future. There is no drive to attend a trades school or college. Multiple people have suggested possible career paths and he shrugs it off.

  • Higher education is worthless to him. He sees no reason to attend & views it as a liberal debt sucking institution.

  • The views he holds are extremely racist, bigoted and sexist. Women in the kitchen, anti LGBTQ, and immigrants are taking our jobs and/or living on our welfare.

  • He thinks Trump is a great leader.

  • There is no sense of personal responsibility.

  • He has wrecked 3 vehicles, on his 4th.

  • My parents are in significant debt because of his reckless behaviour.

  • He's a pot addict & prescription drug abuser.

  • The only reason he doesn't drink much (now) is that he's had not one, but two ulcers due to his poor habits.

  • No sense of cleanliness, whether it be in the house or regarding his person.

The only thing that is giving me any kind of hope is that my parents have finally had enough. They are visiting relatives far away for three months so my brother is on his own.

They are giving him the tough love treatment (finally) and my Dad said he's not living there next year.

I get knots in my stomach even thinking about my brother. It may be terrible, but I wish he never existed. I see my parents bend over backwards for him and giving him chance after chance (not to mention the money).

His bigoted, selfish attitude & negativity only add to my fury. I look at him and see the exact opposite of what a responsible adult is.

I know I'm biased as a liberal, but I've met plently of fairly nice, responsible conservatives.

My husband & extended family (both sides) also find my brother aggravating & immature.

How do I cut him out of my life? We don't talk but I'm considering not inviting him to family events that take place at our house. My parents already don't bring him with on visits unless it is a holiday like Easter.

I feel like I'm horrible, but I would not feel a lot of remorse if he died. Considering his driving record, it could happen sooner rather than later. I would only feel bad because my parents would have to deal with the funeral & his mess.

sigh I'm going to go play some Resident Evil now to get rid of the rest of this tension. Thank goodness for Reddit & this thread.
