usual bounty hunter business
Have a party being in bounty hunter business
They have a bingo book with descriptions of ~8 people left, next target is a noble man that fled from his sentence a decade ago after a revenge killing.
Group enters a new county; Its not exactly rich or scarce but its not a very good soil and it is small. The people living there seem to manage it well. The plots are maintained, fenced off, theres a main road two carts wide paved and kept in check. That is uncommon so far away from the capital. The road is leading to a village out of wooden buildings with an embattled stone house reigning over them.
This district seems to way better managed than the rest of the surrounding land, which is stricken from years of conflict, leaving too few workforce at home.
Group travels up the paved road, meets lone worker maintaining a fence. Chat with him a bit, his name is apparently Erfod. Erfod doesnt talk much, he seems more interested in continuing his work. "What brings you into our shire?" he asks, gets told they are Kingsmen on the lookout for a fugitive and not any more specifics. He nods and suggests a deal that he'll show them a guesthouse they could use and introduce them to the local noble if they would help an hour repairing the fence as a payment. Group agrees, getting a foot in the door with the locals is key for aquiring information, and they've been sent away instead of welcomed before for being dicks. Being not asked too much what they came for is a positive, nobody likes bounty hunters. They are welcomed, shown the way by Erfod to the guesthouse and be told the Count could be found in his house tomorrow. Spend the rest of the evening in the villages tavern socialising, trying to get some intel, to maybe find one of the left targets, while enjoying themselves a little too much. Everybody seems to love the Count, who is a widower, and only speak good of him. How he has an ear for the locals problems being a fair judge in disputes and generally being willing to help the village prosper. Not much other info is collected about the targets at large.
The next day the group cant find their local guide and decide to seek audience at the Count without any assistance, after all he seems to be a lot nicer than the usual noble, but get walled off by the housekeeper. After some persuasion and ultimately a bit of intimidation housekeeper admits his Count left yesterday night in a hurry.
Ask for specifics, like a description, direction, etc; Group becomes suspicious, showing the housekeeper pictures in the bingo book. He's startled recognising the fugitive nobleman.
He was Count Erfod all along
