Grounding spells in 5th edition?

I'm having a moment wherein I cannot remember if you can ground spells in 5th edition like you could in previous editions.

Clarification just in case I'm bad at werds:

I am a shaman using Astral Projection. While cruising through Downtown I spot an MCT wage mage with an active Focus hanging out with some other d-bags. I tend to make bad decisions so I fire an AOE Indirect spell at his focus because fuck that guy and all his friends.

Is this a thing in 5th edition or am I suffering from another bout of being old?
