I'll take sobriety for 500, Alex!

Five hundred fresh ones! I was talking about it with a friend today and I almost couldn't believe it. It doesn't seem real.

Just thinking about it makes me proud of what I accomplished. Five hundred days ago I wrote "It only gets better from here" in my journal, and so far that has been true. There have been tough times and temptations where I've felt like this. And there have been awesome amazing times where I've felt like this.

But overall I am grateful for this community who have helped me along and provided the tools to keep me in the soberverse. I say soberverse because all of my friends still drink and it feels like I exist in a different reality than they do. It took them a little bit to get over me not drinking, but once they realized that even though they didn't have a drinking buddy anymore, they still had a friend. They have been incredibly supportive and have even come to my defense when other people ask me about drinking.

Things seem so much more attainable now. I know what it's like to put in the work day by day and hour by hour to get here. Now I know that I can grind it out and things that take time no longer seem so out of reach. I have a goal to read 52 books this year. I barely read ten when I used to drink and watch TV all the time. Now I'm already at 50. When I talk about how I used to be it's like I'm talking about a different person.

I don't know if anyone has a sober song or anything like that, but this one really hits home for me.

I still procrastinate, I'm still lazy, but the ways that my life has improved is immesurable, including the way that I feel about myself.

This is the me I've missed.
