Thalassophobia and You

Pinned

Hello all, let's have a chat. Here at r/thalassophobia, we strive to create a culture that celebrates the fear of the sea. More specifically, the fear of water and being in a place of pure paralysis due to an overwhelming state of helplessness. We, the mod team, understand that you all are the content creators, sharers and participants and we are so glad to have you here! Yet, there is a misunderstanding about the content that is shared here. We are not a sub for pictures of fish or beautiful lakes or movie trailers, etc. Those are all great things! But this is a phobia subreddit and because of this we celebrate a phobia of that helpless feeling you get when imagining yourself stranded in the water. You can absolutely share content about lakes and rivers, but is the content about the fear of drowning, getting stranded or looking into the murky depths below? Animals in the water is welcome here but this is not the place to share your home pictures of fish you have caught. This brings me to my next point.

We LOVE how enthusiastic you all get about this sub so share away! I just want to share a few quick points.

  1. For a good guidline on what thalasaphobia is, look up the deffinition and check out the hall of fame posts in the sidebar for a good reference on the content we like here.

  2. For example, if you post a picture of a cool crocodile chilling on the beach, we will remove it. It's not because we don't like you or think your submission is dumb, it's because it does not fit the culture of submissions we are looking for at r/thalassophobia.

  3. This sub welcomes all of you. If someone does not understand Thalasaphobia, educate them. Be kind! Don't belittle or tear down, just tell them what this sub is about and refer them to this post or the sidebar if needed.

  4. Reporting. We get A LOT of reports here. Some of them are actually pretty hilarious and/or legitimate but some of them are also completely unacceptable. If you report someone and say "I hope they kill themselves" or anything like this, your report will be ignored. When you do report someone, please give an accurate reason. You can report content that is not appropriate here and comments that are harmful or abusive for our community. Remember, we are a community that celebrates thalassophobia and we, the mods, rely on you to help us filter the good and the bad. So thank you for doing your part!

Finally, share content, discuss, be friendly and remember the point of this subreddit. You are all welcome to be as active here as you'd like. Just remember to follow our rules and respect the culture of the sub.

Thanks! We'll see you in the comments and look forward to the content you will share!
