The Eager Vulture

I had a dream last night that had to do with my mom getting a puppy. I have never owned a dog before and this is the first time I've had a dream with a dog in it. Probably my mind unconsciously telling me that I wish I had that experience in my life. So we brought the puppy home and it quickly fell asleep in the living room near where my pet birds were.

Some time passes and when I return to the living room I notice a small piece of flesh and bones laying on the entrance mat. I approach it and try to figure out what has happened. Behind me standing on the stairs was a vulture. I looked back at the pile that was formally the puppy. And when I looked back up the stairs, the vulture was gone. This was strange to me because I don't believe that vultures are typically birds of prey. They always feast on things that have died. Maybe the puppy died. It might explain why it didn't try to attack any of my pet birds.

When I went up the stairs I noticed that a window was open and the screen that was lining it had been torn. I figured this was how the vulture got in the house, what I didn't understand is why it was so eager to be in here just to eat the remains of the dead puppy. I closed the window and shortly after, the vulture flew straight into the window pane and cracked the glass. I thought that would be the end of it but when I looked down below I could the vulture readying up for a second take off. Again and again it kept on progressively weakening the glass by forcing itself directly into the window.

I left the room and went downstairs to tell my mom what has happened. I showed her the dead puppy which she became distraught over. Even less of the puppy remained as the vulture had successfully breached the glass and continued to work on the flesh. Again the vulture disappeared when I was present. That was pretty much the end of the dream.

I think that I had this dream because of the prevalence of vultures I have noticed in my area as of late. I have also been thinking about what it would be like to have a pet dog but the events of this dream further reinforce my thinking that all good things come to an end. Or that my desires may actually cause me more suffering than happiness. Anyways, I have generally always seen dreams as the mind's way of punishing you for becoming too obsessed with something.
