How to know when it's time to move on from parents?

Hi PF,

Just a little bit of background about me -- but I'm looking for more general opinions as well. I write software & gross 70K/yr and my SO grosses 40k/yr (in case this factors into readiness) -- we've been living at home for a while and amassed about $85,000 in savings. Sure, life is not bad and we wish there was more freedom (yuck; my commute is very long by public transit -- can't own a car where I live to scarity of parking and living situation) but imposing on kind parents forever is tough. And yes, groceries and rent are paid; the parents don't mind -- but when how did you personally know when it was \time?

As time goes on, I have to wonder. Sure, amassing a lot of money is nice, but there's more to life. And it takes toll on parents, I'm sure as well. :) FYI: I am the oldest and I would be far from "clearing up their nest". :)

  1. So, when did you know it was time?
  2. What are things that moving allowed you to do that you didn't initially think of?
