IJW: Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985)
I haven't watched this since I was a kid in the 90's. I thought it was funny back then, but now watching it in my thirties it is freaking hilarious. I see it as an alternate universe where grownups are still children (ie Francis playing with his toys in his giant bath). All this fuss over some lame bike, then towards the end you discover it's actually very badass and can possibly do more than the batmobile.
Maybe it was the nostalgia, and also seeing some of the former and late SNL cast members, but this is definitely a movie that gets better with age. Although nothing in this movie is blatantly inappropriate, I can see this movie was not intended for children, and I appreciate it more as an adult. And yes Paul Reubens is a perv, but that just makes the scene in the magic store even funnier.
So next time you're looking for a movie to watch, I suggest pulling this movie up on Netflix, pour yourself a bowl of Mr. T cereal and enjoy!
