Help regarding HDMI audio passthrough

TechSupport/Repair

Hello,

I'm thinking of buying a Sony X900E but I'm worried about how the HDMI audio passthrough will work with my setup. My current setup is the following:

PC with EVGA GTX 1070 FTW > HMDI CABLE > Receiver YAMAHA RX-377 > HDMI CABLE > TV

So the image is passing through the receiver with no issues. However, the spec of the receiver states that it supports passthrough up to 4k@30Hz, but the X900E supports 4k@60Hz, 1080p@120Hz, and HDR. I've seen some reports that this kind of setup won't work for these conditions, so the solution seems to be passing the audio through the TV to the Receiver, like that:

PC > HDMI CABLE > TV > HDMI CABLE > RECEIVER

Would that work? Are there better solutions? I couldn't find these answers online, hope you guys can help.

If it is of any importance, the main usages would be PC gaming at 4k@60Hz or 1080p@120Hz, Netflix and movies, as well as general PC usage.

Thanks in advance.
