Me [22 F] with my boyfriend [23 M] of one year, he's about to move away and pursue an athletic career and it brings about specific concerns that I don't know how to bring up.
Boyfriend and I have been together for a little over a year, he's fantastic, were fantastic and I know there's no chance he would cheat on me. He's moving away to pursue a professional career in rugby, and I am more than excited for him and fully support it. However, rugby culture is odd. They bond over a lot of drinking and bar visits and for some reason they all love strip clubs.
My view on strip clubs is pretty set in stone. I don't care what other people do, but I would never choose to go spend money there, and I do consider that cheating in a relationship. To go somewhere and spend money on nude women, to pay nude or almost nude women to dance on you and seduce/turn you on, or to just go gawk at nude women disgusts me when you're in a relationship. I think it's extremely unfair and quite disrespectful your partner, and if you need that kind of "fun" in your life then you shouldn't be in a relationship. I also feel that anything that intimate should be something special for you and your partner to partake in, not your partner with someone else.
I have voiced my concerns to my boyfriend earlier in our relationship and while he was upset about it he understood. But his argument is that "it's part of culture and guys do it all the time", so I told him that was fine but if that's what he truly felt that we shouldn't be in a relationship because I do consider that cheating and would break up with him if he chose to go there.
Along with his opinion on strip clubs while in relationships, he said he would definitely not be okay with me being a stripper or using my body to make money, even though it would be okay for him to go spend money on women using their bodies to make money. Which I think is a double standard and very unfair. I tried using his feelings of me being a stripper as a comparison as to how I feel about him potentially spending money on strippers, but it "wasn't the same thing" so he couldn't compare the two.
He then told me because that's really my only huge problem that he would be willing to not partake in going to strip clubs and would respect my opinion on the matter because our relationship is more important than that.
This was 5-6 months ago, and now he's moving to go join a new rugby club. Where he plays now, I know the whole team and am extremely good friends with a large majority of his teammates and friends, and they totally respect the fact that he's in a relationship and respect when he doesn't want to join them. I think in part it is also because they know me and we are good friends. However, I've also seen the other side of them where they get a new guy on the team and don't give a shit what he wants or who is girlfriend is they just take him out and get him super fucked up and go to a bunch of bars and strip clubs. It's like a welcoming thing.
My concern is that when he joins this new team, they will do the same thing and will either 1) get him drunk enough that he'll go, not remembering that he even went. 2) peer pressure him with enough alcohol and "cmon!!" 's that he'll end up going 3) he will politely decline and head home or to a different bar and they'll give him a bunch of shit for it, and then not like me because I'm the reason he's not going.
There's no chance of me changing my opinion on strip clubs, but I also really don't want to have to break up with him over him going to one, or put him in an uncomfortable position where he's trying to make new friends. I don't know what to do or think. I want to just take his word on the matter, which has been easy since we previously talked about it, but with him moving and being around all these new guys that I've never met or have never met me there's so many variables that go into him not going while everyone's out. I'm also scared that he will end up going to one and just not tell me about it because there's no other way I would find out, and he wouldn't want our relationship to end over one night of him going.
TLDR; boyfriend plays rugby, partying hard and doing crazy things and going to strip clubs is basically part of rugby culture, he's moving away to pursue a professional career and I'm scared about him going to strip clubs and keeping it from me.
