Where to find a room to rent?

Looking for a sublease or lease of a room for October/November. I'm wondering where to look for that. Any site recommendations and tips? What should I stay clear of/what should I try to look for? What price range should I expect? I've looked around some on the web and there are people expecting close to a couple thousand per month for a run-down room. Is this tourist bait or actual price point?
