Question regarding oil light on my 2015 IS250

Hey everyone! First time poster. Probably with a stupid question. But that's just life. I have a 2015 IS250, and it's my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong), that the oil maintenance required light will come on around the time to get an oil change (as opposed to when the engine is already in trouble like older vehicles). However, I have already driven it for a little over 5k miles, so I scheduled the oil change, but the light isn't coming on. Am I mistaken about the nature of the maintenance required light for oil changes? Do you usually wait for your light to come on before taking it in?
