Text messaging timestamps

So I got the lg g6 last week and for the most part I really like it. I am coming from the Samsung galaxy s5 so it is a big improvement. One thing that is driving me nuts though is that the timestamps on my text messages are all wrong. I am using the default messaging app, not the verizon messaging app. For example, if I open it up it says the most recent text from my mom is at 1:37 pm yesterday. There is a message from that time but also like 4 newer ones. If I open up the conversation all the times are right though. I tried clearing the cache and went into settings and turned automatic time zone off and back on. I know this is a minor issue but it is really bugging me. Is there a better messaging app I should be using or does anyone know how to fix this?
