I am hard to type. Would anyone help me?
Hey, I saw this questionnaire in this sub and I thought someone could help me with my type. I have never opened myself in this way, so I hope it's worth it. I'm sorry in advance for any mistake - English is not my first language. Thank you :)
Background: The first time I took the MBTI test, I was typed as an INTJ. After I have looked for the cognitive functions and their meanings, I realized this type has few things to do with my actual personality. I will not mention my guesses right now, so that people won't be biased. My enneagram type is very likely to be 6w5, by the way.
1) What aspect of your personality made you unsure of your type?
I am unsure about being a rational or emotional person. I always make rational choices, but I really care about other people's opinion, specially my friends, coworkers and family. Actually, I care more about other people's opinions than their feelings. My empathy does not work with strangers, but I can relate to some of my closest friends' (3 or 4 people) feelings - I even take their problems as my own. I often feel unsure about my persona, then I find myself divided over standing out or trying to fit in too much. I am definitely different from people around me, and it bothers me sometimes, although other times I associate (unconsciously) this uniqueness to superiority.
2) What do you yearn for in life? Why?
Knowledge, wealth, stability, a long-term relationship (kids eventually). My life goals are pretty common, I know. I feel that I am a bit of a hedonist, and I have pleasure when I am traveling, doing a research or investigation (I use to study a random subject just for fun), eating something different, reading books, learning new languages, playing something on the piano, engaging in a conversation in a small group of people, shopping new stuff online or in the mall. Ok, that wasn't very objective, but I think that the thing I pursue the most after all is being happy (or doing whatever makes me happy, and that may vary a lot, according to the moment in my life).
3) Think about a time where you felt like you were at your finest. Tell us what made you feel that way.
My feelings about my life tend to be steady (except when I had depression), but I remember one time, when I was accepted into university. I felt special since that was the best university in my country (controversial, but it's true when it comes to common sense). I wanted to be there since I was 13, and put a lot of effort in order to be accepted.
I also felt joyful when I started dating my current girlfriend, because she was the first person to be in love with me. She used to appreciate me so much, and she tried to please me in every way, in a time when my self esteem was very low.
4) What makes you feel inferior?
When people succeed where I failed. Or else when someone has something (either abstract or concrete) better than mine. I am competitive regarding knowledge and material things.
I also feel inferior when people are condescending to me. I loathe being sub-estimated.
5) What tends to weigh on your decisions? (Do you think about people, pro-cons, how you feel about it, etc.).
First, I search validation from things/people that worked fine before. Then I try to see whether this would work for me, and if this complies with my objectives. If I am still in doubt, I would analyze the pro-cons.
6) When working on a project what is normally your emphasis? Do you like to have control of the outcome?
I tend to keep up with what is essential in order to reach the outcome. I break the work into smaller parts, then I make my analysis on the status of these activities. It's very important for me that the outcome is consistent and controlled.
7) Describe us a time where you had a lot of fun. How is your memory of it?
My first trip to New York, with some friends that I met there. Some things went wrong but we used to laugh all the time, we were even able to make fun of each other. Everything was very new to me, and I started dating my current girlfriend there. I miss the city's atmosphere, the cultural life and its gastronomy.
8) When you want to learn something new, what feels more natural for you? (Are you more prone to be hands on, to theorize, to memorize, etc).
First I theorize the main principles until I feel secure enough to be hands on. Then I use my practical experience in order to learn it effectively. I don't memorize until I have practiced extensively.
9) How organized do you to think of yourself as?
I keep my things tidy, but not in an OCD way. I tend to procrastinate when I have to clean my room, my closet, my suitcase, or even my wallet. My thoughts are more organized than my belongings. I like to categorize people, memories, subjects and information overall. However, I have to put my important tasks on a list in order to achieve them all. I might only prioritize my tasks if I put them on a sheet of paper (or excel, numbers, google sheets etc).
10) How do you judge new ideas? You try to understand the principles behind it to see if they make sense or do you look for information that supports it?
I am very doubtful and skeptical, so I would look for information that supports it. After this, I would see if it makes sense to me.
11) You find harmony by making sure everyone is doing fine and belonging to a given group or by making sure that you follow what you believe and being yourself?
I don't mind if people are doing fine and belonging to the group, but I hate conflicts. They really affect me even when I don't have nothing to do with it. Nevertheless, I feel fine by being myself and having no conflict with anyone.
12) Are you the kind that thinks before speaking or do you speak before thinking? Do you prefer one-on-one communication or group discussions?
I think before I speak, but sometimes I second guess/correct myself in the middle of my speech. I definitely prefer one-on-one conversations.
13) Do you jump into action right away or do you like to know where are you jumping before leaping? Does action speak more than words?
I have to picture very clearly where I am jumping, what could possibly go wrong, what will I do after I leap. I am fine with words, but don't expect me to believe in everything, most times I need evidence or past information.
14) It's Saturday. You're at home, and your favorite show is about to start. Your friends call you for a night out. What will you do?
60%: I will probably find an excuse and stay home.
20%: I will be honest and say I do not feel like going out, but who knows next week.
15%: Ok, you guys win, but I choose the place this time.
5%: I would go wherever they are going.
15) How do you act when you're stressed out?
I try to deep breath and address the cause of the stress. If I can't do nothing about it, I withdraw and get distracted by a hobby, research or another activity on my own. If I can't get distracted, I ask for help from a friend/family.
16) What makes you dislike the personalities of some people?
I don't like invasive or aggressive personalities, because I feel threatened. I don't like dramatic/overly emotional personalities because they drain my energy out. And I don't like overly extroverted/contrived people because they are just fake according to my perception.
17) Is there anything you really like talking about with other people? My current little obsessions - those things that I start researching out of nowhere and then become an enthusiast (e.g. Genealogy, MBTI, a new book or tv show). I also like talking about my experiences and stories that I heard.
18) What kind of things do pay the least attention to in your life?
Sports, physical activity in general. I am still trying to figure out how to motivate myself to working out, jogging, doing Pilates etc, but it is indeed a big challenge and I do not care enough.
19) How do your friends perceive you? What is wrong about their perception? What would your friends never say about your personality ?
My friends think I am intelligent, shy, sweet, polite, reliable, insecure and perfectionist (that's what they tell me). They often refer to me, metaphorically, as a lord or a scientist.
They do not realize how I suffer with my own standards, my expectations, and the lack of definitions for the future. This is not their fault, I am really private and do not talk about my emotions. They can perceive me as an arrogant person sometimes, but I am just reserved. They often think I am too rational, even when I am in the middle of a personal crisis and can not make a fair decision - but again, I don't show my deep emotions every time. They think that I am smarter than I actually am, and I feel pressured about their big expectations for me. Most of them would say I am calm and quiet, but I am actually anxious (I even take some medicines because of this).
My friends would never say I am irresponsible, careless, aggressive, stupid/dumb, extroverted, impulsive.
20) You got a whole day to do whatever you like. What kind of activities do you feel like doing?
Doing my researches, reading a book, watching a tv show, playing piano, doing a new recipe (desserts mostly), going to the cinema, eating out, having a small reunion with some friends, having a short trip to the beach with my girlfriend/family.
