Why Eureka is important

Recently, I have arrived at the conclusion that I like Eureka way more than I did as I watched the show. At first, she seemed too opinionated and loud to be likeable and sparked controversy with some of her remarks. However, going back to the episodes she was featured in, I cannot resist giving her credit for a few things.

First and foremost, her image. Eureka has to be the most uninhibited contestant we have seen in a while, which is a great thing considering how much the majority of the queens care about their portrayal on the show. Whether it is expressing her feelings to Gaga or being the sole speaker in Untucked, Eureka remained the center of attention without necessarily leaning towards the villain territory.

This brings to light my second point, her positivity. Being a big girl, Eureka displayed unapologetic confidence and no excuses when it came to competing with the skinnier girls. Sure, that is not to say that she takes no advantage of her size, but it is far from the first thing I associate her with (that would be the loaves), which I believe to be a merit in terms of accepting the skin you are in. Besides her assurance, Eureka has made quite an impact showing her caring side: she helped a few girls during the sewing challenge and never felt the need to sabotage anyone or complain. That is respectable.

Last but certainly not least, I wanted to bring up her inner drive. I feel like I would almost be objective in saying that the first half of Untucked was far more entertaining than the latter half, all thanks to Eureka. She shared her thoughts, instigated some arguments and overall simply made a statement. Furthermore, she got quite emotional as she was being sent home. The hunger for the win that she had is commendable; she would have definitely lip synched for her life had she had an opportunity.

That said, Eureka definitely had the right approach to this competition, without actually forgetting it is a reality show before anything else. I would like to stress the fact that she is the perfect balance between the raunchy, provocative nature of drag and Disneyworld-level family-friendliness. From reading books to children at Drag Con to making outrageous remarks about eating disorders, Eureka helps the show maintain its original purpose of both entertaining and educating the viewer on the topic of drag queens and queer people in general. The show seems to benefit from casting pageant queens...

I sincerely hope S10 does not disappoint in terms of strong, noteworthy contestants. I was compelled to write this post partially due to the boredom that is Rupaul's Best Friend Race. While we have a great batch of girls in the top4, I expected the competition to be way more cutthroat, but oh well.
