What should I expect when Hiking to the Bright Angel Campground in the Grand Canyon?

Most of what I have been reading online is beyond 5-years old. Next month, 4th of July weekend actually, I will be backpacking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon via South Kiabab and back up Bright Angel. Are there any amazing day hikes once down there?

Also, I know it will be hot. I am a Phoenix native and have been hiking in the heat for years, so I'm not too worries, but tips for keeping cool are welcome.
