It's not nearly as bad as I thought?
I honestly thought transitioning would be worse than it really is. I live in the smack dab middle of the Bible Belt and my worst fear is someone calling me out. I can handle stares and weird looks (but they do make me uncomfortable).
People are decent. I went out yesterday in full "women's garb" (minus makeup) and painted nails for pride with my girlfriend, and stopped at a gas station for drinks on our way back and I only got a few stares and one weird look. No one called me out, no one laughed at me, no one whispered to the person next to them. The majority of people just went about their business.
It's not that scary anymore, and people are still good, even in a scary time for us, people are great.
