Why is there so much condemnation in the bible about sorcery/witchcraft/divination?
I am really struggling to rectify my more new age spiritual beliefs and my Christianity. When I think about witchcraft, I start thinking of the historical treatment of women. In the patriarchal society of the past, women were seen as property having no rights or power of their own. Was witchcraft simply a feminist movement of empowerment? A way for women to feel they had some kind of sway over their reality? If so, did the men who wrote the bible simply try to squash it? Sorry, I'm rambling.
I have always been drawn to Tarot. In fact, I'm very good at reading the cards. I mostly use them for my own personal introspection. I don't read for others, generally speaking. I bought books on solitary Wicca, had multiple decks of tarot cards but continued to grow in my Christianity. I abandoned the Catholicism of my youth for nondenominational fundamentalist Christianity which is funny when you consider all the pagan imagery in Catholicism. As I continued in my search for truth, I realized that reading Tarot and engaging with spiritualists is denying God's ultimate providence over my life. So, I threw all my books, altar cloth and tarot decks away save one which I put away because I liked the artwork.
I recently visited Salem, MA. It revived my interest in the occult and I purchased another deck of Tarot cards. When I read Tarot, my fingers tingle when I touch the right card to draw. I don't want to defy God and I'm terrified of hell. Is Tarot truly witchcraft? I do not perform spells, only read my cards. I am interested in performing what is called "shadow work." Help me?
TL;DR is Tarot witchcraft and is it wrong in the eyes of God?
Update- I've put them away for now.
